And there you go, here are the most beautiful villages in Chios that you have to see for yourself!

It is considered one of the most beautiful villages in Chios and for a very good reason! Pyrgi is also known as “the painted village”. Visiting Pyrgi you’ll encounter some of the most interesting building on the island, the Medieval feeling is strong and you’ll notice it throughout your stay there. Enjoy strolling around in the narrow streets and take as many pictures as you can. This a “picturesque” village after all.

This small village in the southwest part of Chios island used to be one of the heaviest producers of Mastic. Nowadays, it has just 400 inhabitants and it remains one of the best-preserved medieval villages in Chios. When visiting take a close look at the locals’ houses. This is what defensive architecture is all about!

The village of Kardamyla is actually divided into two parts. The upper and the lower village. The first one is the oldest part of the village. Walking there you’ll be able to see houses and buildings made mostly of stones. The streets are extremely narrow and you’ll be amazed to see that the entire Upper Village is built on a steep hill. Now, the Lower Village has a completely different feel to it. Same architecture but much more picturesque, as you’ll be able to see flowers and plants all over the place. Plus, you will get a look at the traditional mansions!

Maybe the village with the least amount of inhabitants, (85 in total)! It’s actually near to Chios Town and this one as well is built on top of a hill! Houses made of stone, narrow alleys… But, what makes this little village unique is the romantic atmosphere it has. It’s perfect if you are in the mood to eat great traditional dishes in one of the local taverns and enjoy the amazing view of the sun setting. And let’s be honest: Who isn’t in that mood all the time?

Volissos is built amphitheatrically on the slopes of a hill. When you visit this unique village you can’t miss seeing the Monastery of Agia Markella and the castle. Plus, of course, the many water mills and Byzantine churches that are scattered all over the place.

If you are in the mood to visit a historical village that is now deserted, Anavatos is the place to be! While it is built on top of a hill, overlooking the sea above abrupt rocks, it feels serene and natural. It is only a 45-minute ride from the center of Chios, you can’t miss the opportunity to see it!
